Choquequirao Trek New Discovery 4 Day
The archeological
site of Choquequirao is part of the complex system of Andean
towns in the Vilcabamba valley. In Inca times it was joined in
direct communication to the Machu Picchu by a complex network of
trails.
CHOQUEQUIRAO:
Is situated in the spurs of the mountain range of the
Salkantay, at 3,035m.a.s.l. Surrounded by the snowcapped Apus of
Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpo, Pumasillo and Panta on the right
side of the Apurimac river in the Santa Teresa district in the
province of La Convenciòn, in the Cusco department. The ruins at
Choquequirao are comprised of buildings and terraces at
different levels from the lower level Sunchu`Pata to the
truncated hill top.
FIRST DAY:
We start off from Cusco at 6:00 am in the morning arriving at
the Cachora town at 11:00 am where we will have our lunch.
There, after arranging the equipment on mules and horses we`ll
observe the majestic Padrajoc and the Wayna Cachora snow covered
peaks. We`ll appreciate the impressive change of the landscape
from precipices to snowy mountains.
On the way, we will observe the Apurimac canyon with its
stunning depth and then in Santa Rosa we will set up our
campsite.
The approximate time of the hike is about 8 hours. On this day
we will pass by the small settlements: la Colmena (2870 above
sea level), Cocamasana (2330 above sea level ),
Torowisqana(2285above sea level ), Chiquisca(1950 above sea
level ) grove place where we can find water; Playa Rosalina(camp
in 155 above sea level ), La Huerta (2705 above sea level ) and
finally we arrive at Santa Rosa (2115 above sea level ).
SECOND DAY :
Early in the morning (5:00 am) after having breakfast; we get
along our hike going up to Choquequirao. We will arrive at the
archeological site of Choquequirao after 5 hours. Good time to
enjoy that imposing place. We will observe the three levels of
the excavated ruins, where we can appreciate houses, terraces
and other sections of this last Inca stronghold. We`ll also
appreciate the exploring progression. Finally, we`ll notic
unexplored areas - that can tell us about this last refuge of
the oppressed Inca empire. Approximately, at 3 o´clock in the
afternoon (depending on the weather) we`ll appreciate "the
flight of the condors".
Choquequirao is regarded as "The Last Refuge of the Inca
Empire." The oldest reports assign to Juan Ariaz Diaz, being one
of the first persons who explored the zone about 1710.
Our bilingual guide will explain you the history and importance
of the site after the Spanish arrived at Perù. We will have our
lunch and dinner in Rayacpata (2910masl).
THIRD DAY :
After an early breakfast we pack and start walking back to
Chiquiska. We can observe again the Apurimac canyon. Here we may
be lucky to appreciate the flight of the condors, the exuberant
vegetation and its variety of flowers and orchids. The time of
the hike is about 10hours. Altitude: 3033- 1950 above sea level.

stop in Playa Rosalina where we will have our lunch and after
that we`ll get along to Chiquiaca. Here, we are going to spend
the night on our campsite.
FOURTH DAY:
CHIQUISQA - CACHORA - CUSCO
Early in the morning after having breakfast (5:00 am) we`ll
continue - arriving at the Cachora town. Along the hike we can
appreciate again the majestic Padrajoc snow-covered peak that
decorates the Apurimac canyon.
The time of hiking to arrive at Cachora is about 7h. On the way
back to Cusco we`ll make an optional stop in Cconoc to enjoy
from its natural hot Springs!!
Showers are available. The same day we can see native products
of the area.
We will arrive at Cusco at approximately 10 PM.
