AUSANGATE (4 days /3 nights)
Trekking to
Ausangate-Description
Ausangate is the highest snow capped mountain of the Vilcabamba
mountain range. It is imposing and majestic. In the Inca times
it was regarded as one of the most important “apus”, or tutelar
gods. Its splendor can be seen from the city of Cusco. This trek
is done above the 4600 M.A.S.L. All along the route you can
enjoy from beautiful views of its glaciers. You`ll also be
admire with the formation of lagoons, and take a bath in the
natural hot springs which in this cold environment produce a
dreamy experience. The Ausangate, nowadays is visited for people
from around the world. Its geography allow you to see a great
diversity of flora aand fauna.
Itinerary:
Day 1 :Cusco-Ocongate-Tinqui
(3950 M.A.S.L.):
The stretch
Cusco-Aucangate is done at 3850 M.A.S.L. We set off from Cusco
at 6:00 A.M. and in seven hours ride we get at the little town
of Tinqui. During this stretch you`ll see beautiful fields and
many typical villages which include: Urcos, Cattca, and Ocongate,
where we`ll stop for a while to take pictures. You`ll spend the
night in a hotel in Tinqui, located at 3850 M.A.S.L.
Day 2:
Tinqui – Upis (4,200 M.A.S.L.) After breakfast we`ll start the
trekking towards a pass of 4250 M.A.S.L. in order to get on
around the Ausangate`s skirt, watching colorful lagoons formed
by the defrosting of the snow capped mountain. Along with the
muleteers you`ll know the customs of the inhabitants that
surround this impressing mountain. Also you`ll admire the
beautiness of the llamas and the alpaca, typical animals from
this highlands. We`ll visit the little village of Upis at 4140
M.A.S.L., place where we`ll camp. (Breakfast,lunch and dinner).
Day 3.-
Apis-Pacchanta (4450 M.A.S.L.): After breakfast we`ll go on the
route walking at slow pace towards the villaje of Pacchanta.
Along this stretch you`ll see beautiful landscapes, and we`ll
pass by the natural reserve of Huallatas, where we`ll admire
different species of Andean birds, vizcachas, and other typical
animals. We`ll get early at the camp in order to enjoy from the
springs.
Day 4 :Pacchanta-Tinqui-Cusco
(3,950 M.A.S.L.)
After taking breakfast, we`ll walk about 4 hours along the very
typical Andean landscape, like saying goodbye to the Apu. Then
we arrive at the Tinqui villaje, the place where we`ll take the
lunch.
