Toro Muerto Petroglyphs
We
pick you up from your hotel at 7:30 am. in order to depart at 8:00, heading for the
Toro Muerto, (Dead bull). It is a collection of ancient
petroglyphs in the Peruvian coastal desert, found in the
province of Castile, in the region Arequipa in Peru. The site
contains some 3000 volcanic rocks with petroglyphs dating back
to the Huari Culture, where we`ll arrive at approximately 11:00
am. In ancient
times this site was forced to move from road to the coast Caylloma
Camaná.
Toro Muerto is a place where ancient petroglyphs bear witness to
the life of the ancient inhabitants of these lands.
Here volcanic rocks are scattered in an area of nearly 5 km.
around,
probably due to the violent eruptions and the volcanoes Chachani
and Coropuna.
The full extent is of 3.876 meters long and 250 meters wide, The stones have been
recorded with all kinds of geometric and anthropomorphic
representations, birds, animals, reptiles, etc.
Capitalizing on a visit to this majestic area you can also visit what is called the
Jurassic Park Arequipeño (Dinosaur Tracks Querullpa) and a still
developing zone producer of pisco and wine: the Majes Valley.
Lunch (lunch is possible shrimp).
In the afternoon around 4:30 p.m. we will return to Arequipa, the white
city.
